Controversial Rap Group Ready To Hit Wellington
Controversial Rap Group Ready To Hit Wellington
Controversial Wellington rap group RICHE$
will lampoon our current economic and political climate at
Bodega's Burgundy Room, from 9pm on the night of Friday,
March 2, in their one-off show ROAD 2 DA RICHE$, part of Fringe 2012.
Fringe MC Adam Page interviewed RICHE$ at the Fringe Bar on Friday, February 11, asking what they thought of the global Occupy protests against corporate greed and corruption.
'We shut that down', RICHE$' producer Double Hundred said.
'Occupy?', RICHE$' lyricist Cashflo Dollar said. 'Aren't they the fifth arm of the Taliban?' To the suddenly silent crowd he said: 'F#*k the ninety-nine percent! Yeah, that's you.'
RICHE$ then launched into an exclusive performance of their single 'Illuminati'. Near the end of the song Double Hundred, accompanied by RICHE$' resident accountant and hype-man, Coach Cam, listed members of 'the secret worldwide Illuminati network that controls your life', including: 'Megan Fox, T-Pain, Black Box, Aeroplane, Starbucks, Spiderman, Daffy Duck, Steely Dan.'
In the past month RICHE$ have released nine videos via their youtube channel, one to accompany each of their songs. 'Drink And Pass', their ode to irresponsible drinking, featuring RICHE$' co-sign Cats Van Damme, featured on the New Music Express website as well as an alcoholism self-help website.
Their songs are often highly topical. Van Damme, who will support RICHE$ in their March 2nd show, last year released a single celebrating Zac 'Guilt-free' Guilford's drunken Cook Island hijinks.
RICHE$ claim to be 'the world's richest rap group', stating on their facebook page: 'RICHE$ make club bangers and aspirational rap hits for the already wealthy who want to be richer. RICHE$ shamelessly celebrate corporate excesses and glorify lifestyles full of celebrity sexscapades and high-end consumer items. RICHE$ represent the 1% of real rappers with RICHE$ on their minds 100% of the time. RICHE$ rule the Financial Rap Industry while pissing on the 99% from the VIP section. You too can ride the road to the RICHE$ at RICHE$' show, where it will literally rain RICHE$.'
Cashflo Dollar said ROAD 2 DA RICHE$ will be: 'a fully immersive experience. We'll use the latest in crowd-participation technology to shower you with streams of cash and bodily fluids. Expect lots of explosions, thought-provoking lyrics, and more money than you've ever seen in your life.'
Entry to the show is $5 koha (donation) at the door. RICHE$ expect to make most of their profits from sales of official RICHE$ merchandise, including RICHE$ CDs, RICHE$ 'Purple Drank', and RICHE$ 'Free Bernie Madoff' T-shirts.
RICHE$ fans can purchase a high-quality version of their latest single 'Coochie Calamity' for the bargain price of $1000 USD from RICHE$' Bandcamp site. Their tracks can also be downloaded free from RICHE$' Soundcloud site.
'RICHE$ got something for everyone', Double Hundred said. 'We've even got 'those rootsie tootsie chilled-out vibes for the dope-smoking ropehead market. This song [Awakening] changed Simon Sweetman's mind about BBQ reggae. He loves it now,' Hundred said.
Dollar said the reason RICHE$ performs from behind a red velvet VIP rope is: 'to highlight the fact that the audience are not on our level. You'll never be as rich and successful as us, but for one night you can experience history in the making and share in the wealth of the world's all-time greatest rap group. What's better than that?'
