Independence for free
2012 marks both the 50th anniversary of Samoa’s independence and the 50th anniversary of the unique ‘Treaty of Friendship’ between New Zealand and Samoa. www.SAMOA2012.co.nz, facilitated by the Pacific Cooperation Foundation, includes a full calendar year of events in Samoa and New Zealand to celebrate this milestone.
SAMOA2012 is a free listing, not for profit website that is a Pacific Co-operation Foundation initiative. It was created to provide a web portal supporting initiatives surrounding SAMOA 2012 50th anniversary celebrations between Jan 1st and Dec 31st 2012.
Western Samoa achieved its independence on Monday, January 1st 1962 after a direct vote by the people, and Tupua Tamasese and Malietoa Tanumafili II were appointed joint Head of State for their lifetime. This serves as a momentous celebration for the people of Samoa and wider Pacific communities.
With a range of events across New Zealand such as Art and Museum Exhibitions, Library Talks and Readings, School Celebrations, the Pasifika Pioneers Jubilee Ball 2012, Miss Samoa NZ, Samoan Language Week and The New Zealand Defence Force marking 50 years of Samoan Independence, SAMOA2012 offers the Pacific community with a vast range of events that New Zealand has to offer.
As we come to celebrate the special 50th Anniversary of the unique Treaty of friendship between the two countries there is now a call for more event submissions.
