Mountaineering
Expert’s Book Tour Launched
Leading active travel company World Expeditions, announces the New Zealand Book Tour for Simon Yates in Auckland, Nelson and Christchurch in late June.
In 1985, Simon Yates made the life and death decision to cut the rope of his climbing partner Joe Simpson, while climbing the West Face of the Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes. This famous expedition was documented in the award winning book and film ‘Touching the Void’.
Going beyond the “void”, Simon has become one of Britain’s most prolific climbers. With a career spanning nearly 30 years, Simon’s climbing and travelling has taken him from Alaska to Australia and from the Canadian Arctic to the tip of South America.
Simon will regale audiences with his tales of adventure, many with life threatening situations, and how they have shaped his life. Simon will be selling signed copies of his third book, ‘The Wild Within’, along with posters at each event.
Tickets are $20 or $15 for students and Macpac members. Book online at www.worldexpeditions.com or purchase tickets at any Macpac Store.
Simon Yates is the author
of three autobiographical books about mountaineering. The
first, ‘Against The Wall’ is about an expedition to
climb a new route on the central Tower of Paine in Chilean
Patagonia and was short-listed for the Boardman Tasker Prize
for mountain literature. ‘The Flame of Adventure’
describes a series of climbing adventures around the world.
His most recent book, ‘The Wild Within’ describes
expeditions to the Cordillera Darwin in Tierra del Fuego,
the Wrangell St-Elias ranges on the Alaska-Yukon border and
Eastern Greenland.
