New Website Offers Free Books – with a Difference

There are many websites that offer free ebooks, but the one put together by Nelson novelist P. B. Dillon is unique.

It’s called BookTesters.com. Just like with the other sites, people can sign up to get a regular list of books they can download, but that’s where the similarity ends.

The books on P. B. Dillon’s site are brand new. “They’ve virtually never been seen before, by anyone,” he says. “Nor is the purpose just to get a free book; the purpose is to be part of the creative process, to help spot errors and inconsistencies and to offer suggestions to the author, with the goal of helping to make the book as good as it can be – all before it is even published.”

It’s the digital version of a focus-group for books. “From the author’s perspective, getting real, unbiased feedback from your target audience, before anything is set in stone, can be incredibly valuable. Not only can it help highlight any issues, but it can also give an author an indication of how well-received a book might be when it becomes available.”

The readers benefit as well. “None of it would be possible without the participation of our readers,” says Dillon. “Luckily, there are lots of book lovers out there who are willing to read the manuscripts and offer their feedback. BookTesters has only been live for a week or so, and more than 1200 people have already signed up – and that’s just fantastic!”

As to their motivation for doing so, Dillon has some theories. “Speaking for myself, I’d jump at the chance to help out a fellow author, just because – and I know many others who would do the same. But some might sign up because the books are free. Others might do so for the kudos of being part of the process, or just to be the first to read something new.

“And then there are those who might need a little encouragement. Fortunately, we’ve got an incentive planned that might do the trick – but you’ll have to sign up to find out what it is!”

BookTesters isn’t open to authors yet, but will be soon. “We’ve already been contacted by several authors asking when we’ll be ready for them. We’ve got a bit of work to do yet, but the answer to that is, ‘soon’.”

If you’re a book lover looking for something new or an author looking for feedback from interested readers, head over to http://booktesters.com and follow the instructions on the screen.
