Carly Flynn Launches the Everybody’s Stool
Television personality Carly Flynn has temporarily swapped her microphone for a design hat in a bold new project which sees the much loved broadcaster extend her talents to furniture design.
The journalist and self confessed design junky is today launching “Everybody’s Stool” - a New Zealand made design created for today’s living.
“I always loved the old orange kitchen stool my Grandma had, and continue to use it today. When my two children were fighting over it one day, I decided to recreate my own version to better fit with today’s living.”
Flynn says that while journalism is her first love, she’s always had an interest in good furniture and interior design.
“Being a journalist and broadcaster has enabled me to meet and interview so many inspiring people over the years, it’s part of that life that has inspired me to do my own something.
“I’m definitely not leaving journalism and I have never thought of myself as an entrepreneur before. However I’ve always been obsessed with patterns and textures and I’m surrounded by many talented friends making everything from shoes to vases, to running their own design stores. Testing the idea on a couple of them I woke up one day and thought, ‘I can do this!’”.
Flynn is initially launching five colour-ways in time for Christmas, with plans for new designs and styles each season.
“There’s been nothing glamorous about it. I’ve been unearthing fabric in the depths of upholsterers’ backrooms and overseeing the steel manufacturing process. I’m even screwing the lids myself and loving every minute of it. I’m really proud of the initial designs.”
The Everybody’s Stool has multiple purposes, and is an essential for everyone’s home, business or bach.
“It’s great for reaching up into the high shelf of the pantry, and my kids love using them as chairs at the dinner table, I just love the multiple functions and textures of them!”
The stools will have two ranges, the Classic and the Limited Edition, with a small number of each design and colourway produced. They are available on www.carlyflynn.com
The stools will retail from $379 with an opening week special of free Auckland city delivery.
