Lotto New Zealand launches new game Play 3

Lotto New Zealand launches new game Play 3

Lotto New Zealand has launched a brand new game today called Play 3, which provides an alternative to its traditional lottery games.

“We want to offer our players a fun, new game that’s unique from our other games. It’s easy to play and we think Kiwis are going to love it,” said Lotto New Zealand’s Head of Product Justin Powell.

Play 3 gives players the chance to win prizes every day for just $1. All players need to do is pick a three-digit number and a play type and then try and match it to the winning number, drawn daily at 6pm.

Simple number games like Play 3 have been around internationally for over 50 years.

“Most lotteries in North America and Asia offer a simple game like Play 3,” said Mr Powell. “It’s one of the most popular lottery games in places like New York.”

With Play 3, there is no large jackpot to be shared. Instead it offers fixed prize payouts, with good odds of winning and a top prize of $500.

Customers can choose any three-digit number to play, which may be guided by personal superstitions and circumstances. Favourite numbers are often linked to birthdays, anniversaries or house numbers.

And what is traditionally considered a ‘lucky’ number differs depending on the country you visit. In Chinese culture 8 is considered lucky because it’s pronounced similarly to the Chinese word for wealth and prosperity.

Memorably, to capitalise on number 8’s luck, the Beijing Olympics began at 8pm on 8 August 2008, creating a very lucky date for the Chinese hosts.

In other cultures, such as America, the UK and France, the number 7 is considered to be lucky due to a variety of reasons including its link to nature, such as the 7 seas, 7 continents, and 7 colours in the rainbow.

Whatever your superstitions are, Play 3 makes it easy to play your special numbers for a chance to win prizes every day.

Play 3 tickets are available for purchase now from all Lotto stores and online at MyLotto.co.nz. The first Play 3 draw will take place tonight at 6pm.
