Global Game Jam 2015 Auckland Venue Announced

Global Game Jam 2015 Auckland Venue Announced

17 October 2014

The world’s largest game jam is coming back to New Zealand in 2015 and Media Design School are thrilled to announce that they will be hosting New Zealand’s Auckland meet up.

The Global Game Jam is a 48-hour game jam (or a gathering of game developers, artists, creators and enthusiasts) that takes place simultaneously around the world.

Each year, a theme is revealed at the beginning of the game jam and participants are asked to devise and create their own game – all within the span of two days!

Lecturer in Game Programming and Global Game Jam Auckland organiser Tece Bayrak is excited that Media Design School has once again been selected as the venue for Auckland’s Global Game Jam.

“This is the fourth year in a row that we’ve hosted the Auckland chapter of the Global Game Jam and we’re confident that it will be bigger and better than ever before,”

“Last year, an impressive 88 jammers attended the Auckland Global Game Jam. This year we’re aspiring to attract over 100 jammers to participate at our Auckland site.”

Bayrak says that the increase of people wanting to be a part of the Auckland Global Game Jam shows just how popular game jams are becoming, both in New Zealand and around in world.

According to Global Game Jam, 2014 was an especially impressive year in terms of participation with over 23,000 people creating games at 488 game jam sites in over 72 countries.

“New Zealand’s time zone means that we are always one of the first sites to kick off the Global Game Jam each year, which makes our game jam especially exciting for gamers domestically and internationally,” says Bayrak.

The event is organized globally by the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) and will take place at Media Design School’s central Auckland campus from the 23rd – 25th January 2015.

Registrations for the Global Game Jam Auckland site are yet to open but additional information about the Auckland meet up can be found by clicking the following link.
