APRA Silver Scroll tickets up for charity auction to support NZ Music Foundation

To mark the adoption of The NZ Music Foundation as the official charity of the Silver Scroll Awards 2014, organisers APRA AMCOS announced today that they have made a double pass to the awards ceremony available in a special online charity auction. The winning bidder will also receive two nights’ accommodation courtesy of the Intercontinental hotel Wellington. This is the first time access to the annual event, held at the TSB Arena in Wellington on Thursday 30 October, has been opened up to the public. The auction proceeds will go to support The Foundation’s work with music-based projects around the country that change the lives of those in need.

The auction is online now using kiwi social media app Buddy Bid and can be found through The Foundation’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/nzmusicfoundation or directly at http://bit.ly/1rdD6iN. The auction closes on Saturday October 25 at 8:30pm.

“The work of The Foundation in bringing the benefits of music to those in need throughout our country and also with the music community in New Zealand is outstanding” says APRA AMCOS’s Jamie Newman. “We’re pleased to be able to support them and we feel that by donating these tickets for auction, we can help raise awareness of their vital work and give a lucky NZ music fan and a friend a unique, money-can’t-buy experience.”

The Silver Scroll is New Zealand’s most prestigious music award. Since 1965 it has paid tribute to an impressive list of songwriters, with an honour roll that includes Ray Columbus, Neil Finn, Don McGlashan, Dave Dobbyn, Bic Runga, Chris Knox, Brooke Fraser, The Naked and Famous, and last year New Zealand’s own superstar, Lorde. The award ceremony itself is an invite-only event and features unique, live reinterpretations of the five finalists’ songs as well as the winners of the Maioha and SOUNZ Contemporary awards by bands and one-off collaborations of esteemed musicians. The performances this year are being overseen by the event’s Music Director, Luke Buda from The Phoenix Foundation.

The New Zealand Music Foundation General Manager, Peter Dickens, says: “This is a fantastic auction item that should make every kiwi music fan in the country prick up their ears. We’re very grateful to both APRA AMCOS and The Intercontinental hotel in Wellington for making this possible and we know that it will help us make a real difference through music to the lives of those in need in New Zealand. We’re proud to be the official charity of the Silver Scroll Awards 2014 and we’re looking forward to an amazing night”.

The New Zealand Music Foundation was started in 2012 to support music-based projects across the country that change the lives of those in need, and to provide emergency assistance to members of the New Zealand music community who find themselves experiencing hardship, illness or distress. In their last support round in September, The Foundation provided assistance to eight projects in five towns and cities around New Zealand, benefiting over 15,000 people.

The New Zealand Music Foundation supports music-based projects in healthcare, education, rehabilitation, volunteering and many other areas in communities all over NZ, changing the lives of those in need through music. It also provides vital support at times of hardship to members of the NZ music community.

APRA AMCOS, representing the Australasian Performing Right Association and the Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society, is a non-profit organisation that collects and distributes songwriting royalties to its 87,000 songwriter, composer and music publisher members, and around 3,000,000 copyright owners worldwide.
