Hit + Run Returns to Curate Red Bull Sound Select on Tour: Auckland And Palmerston North

The next instalment of HIT + RUN’s Red Bull Sound Select shows return with an array of New Zealand’s finest emerging beat manglers and sound sculptors, counting Kåmnd¡ before venturing to 30 Days in LA, Manawatu’s own Buska Dimes, Kakapo, and the new edition -Christoph El Truento.

This event promises to be a journey into sound as fans are joined by London IZWID records boss, the originator of the LA instrumental beat scene, KUTMAH as headliner. Introducing the beats for summer, Red Bull Sound Select hosts an afternoon show at Auckland’s Mantells on the Water on Nov 9 from 2-10pm, and a night show at The Fish - Palmerston North’s first-ever show on Nov 15 from 8pm.

HIT + RUN’s Scott Bulloch is proud to present Christoph El Truento as the new artist to his #SOUNDSELECT roster. Bulloch first heard Christoph when he was living in London.

“It’s amazing how sound transcends all perceived boundaries, I had no idea he was from Auckland until I returned last year,“ says Bulloch. “His music is truly original and spellbinding, capturing and manipulating sound. He has produced some exceptional work with LA Crew ZEROH and MATTHEWDAVID amongst a plethora of local talent from all music genres and is the perfect complement to the artists we introduced in 2013.”

Bulloch learned to listen to sound and played with bunch of old 45s as a baby in the 60’s, growing up in his father’s audio store in Palmerston North. He knew his Dad was an electronic genius ahead of his time. Bulloch studied classical piano at school, but got told off for being too interpretive with his playing style.

After working at his father’s shop during high school, Scott came across his first EDP Wasp synthesiser, which was “a thing of beauty.” After getting into Hi Fi, Bulloch’s Dad would loan him PA gear to play at school discos. He was “armed and dangerous before he even left school.”

“Palmerston North was always pretty progressive when it came to council funded music facilities. It fostered a studio that would give people access to equipment and a place to play loud,” says Bulloch. “At the Manawatu Art Gallery, we would play these crazy free fusion sessions with loads of different kinds of musicians and sound benders. The nightclubs would be rammed with people travelling up from Wellington - we were way ahead of the new sounds that people wanted to hear.

“Thanks to Red Bull Sound Select, I get the chance to bring it all back to my home town. Don’t expect the ordinary.”
