Airport Welcome for England Team

Airport Welcome for England Team

Dunedin, 30 October 2014 – Rugby league fans have plenty to shout about in the lead up to the Kiwis v England Four Nations test match on Saturday, 8 November.

Their first stop should be the Dunedin International Airport, to welcome the England team when it arrives at 7.15pm on Monday, 3 November. The King’s and Queen’s High Schools’ Kapa Haka group will welcome the team on arrival and then the City of Dunedin Pipe Band will pipe the players through the terminal.

Dunedin City Council Events Special Projects Co-ordinator Tammy Jackman says, “This is a great opportunity to see the players and give them the sort of southern welcome we are famous for. I really encourage people to come out on the night.”

England fans will have the chance to watch the team in action at an open training session at Tahuna Park from 5pm to 8pm on Wednesday, 5 November. The public is also welcome to attend a Kiwi League Tag Carnival between invited schools. This is being held at Kaikorai Valley College from 11am to 12 noon on Thursday, 6 November.

Dunedin Venues Chief Executive Terry Davies says the Kiwis v England Four Nations Test Match is the first in the city for 86 years and a great crowd is expected for the 8pm kick off on 8 November at the Forsyth Barr Stadium.

“With the fantastic win in Brisbane, we’re looking forward to a terrific welcome back to the Kiwis as they face off against England under the roof.”

One of the key events in the lead up to the match is a light-hearted debate and dinner at the Glenroy Auditorium on Friday, 7 November. Union v League – The Great Debate, will also include entertainment and an auction of sporting memorabilia.
