Winners of Art of Camping Announced for Splore 2015
Wild with Imagination / Winners to build their ultimate themed campsite
Festival goers around the country were invited to design their ultimate themed campsite for Splore 2015, and now the lucky Red Bull Art of Camping winners have been chosen! 10 groups will each transform a 10x10m open campsite into interactive art installations for all festival goers to enjoy.
Located on one of the most premium sites at Tapapakanga Regional Park, The Art of Camping village comes complete with sea views, private bathrooms, power, and a licensed bar at their doorstep. Winners will be living the camping dream.
So what can you expect to find amongst the thrum? The winning entries include The Lizard Lounge, where a shabby Vegas inspired cabaret will simmer into the wee hours and guests can take up the mic to croon like they’re Andy Kaufman or tempt lady luck with a spin of the wheel of fortune, The Magical Photo Booth, where professional photographers will be snapping the varied life-forms passing through against a myriad of ever-changing backdrops, and Simply Put, with recycled transparent pressed flower walls providing a creative hub for painting, origami and hat making, showcasing sustainability and the beauty of our environment.
"Home is where the hearth is" is a play on the hearth as the centre of the home being replaced by the TV, – guests are invited to snuggle in and watch arty films. The #Cheers4Splore hub is open to all Sploreites to come and doodle their thanks for Splore. They can also join the travelling flash mob led by members of the Splore Appreciation Society cheer squad. Festival goers will immediately feel at home in the comforts of the Frolicsome Family Bach, decked out with a record player, “swap a book” shelf, paint-your-own family portraits, and games area.
At Makey-Connection, friends and strangers will need to high-five, touch noses, touch fingers or similar to make a connection between two electronic switches for the camera snap a photo. Team Synergy brings neuroscience and quantum mechanics to Splore. To counter the individualism promoted in modern culture, the power of a shared experience is greater than the sum of its parts, creating synergy. The Nest ‘n’ Restis a cosy bush hut specialising in brewing the perfect cuppa.
Completing the ten winning teams is The return of The Community Clotheshorse who have been lucky enough to win a site for the second year running, improving on this year’s idea where other festival goers could walk through and take an item off the clothes-line, replacing it with something equally fabulous of their own.
“We absolutely loved being part of such a
special community created. Seeing the joy on peoples faces
as they left our camp in a new costume. It was great!”
says Community Clotheshorse team leader Frances
Fordham.
“We're thrilled that the clotheshorse has
become a cyclic event. It will only improve each year with
greater awareness, so we're looking forward to increasing
the calibre and number of costumes on offer. Spread the word
and get your old costume pieces ready to
swap!”
