No Catch - Fumble Costs Tui Catch Taker

No Catch - Fumble Costs Tui Catch Taker

Close, slow-motion inspection voids what looked like a Tui Catch a

Million Catch

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 BLACKCAPS versus England match in Wellington today will go down in history for a few things, the batting collapse of England, the stupendous innings from Brendan McCullum, and a fumbled chance at a share of a million dollars by Kiwi fan Jason Bragg.

The Stadium erupted when Jason caught what looked like a clean Tui Catch a Million catch, however at closer inspection in the broadcast suite by the Tui Match Official there was no-doubt that the catch was null and void.

Close-up slow motion footage, which was not seen by the viewing public clearly shows an obvious fumble and the catch taker's other hand coming to his aid. Unfortunately for Jason this was a clear violation of the rules around clean catches, and there was no hesitation in voiding the catch.

Commenting on the ‘no-catch’, Jason Bragg said it all happened so quickly, and he was gutted that natural instinct kicked in and he used his other hand.

“I’m stunned, it all happened so quickly as the ball came sailing towards me, I thought it was a clean catch but on reflection, and instinctively my other hand came in to ensure I caught the ball. Such a school boy error, and I'm truly gutted to have missed out on a share of a million dollars.”

Not all is lost for Jason, as Tui are hooking him up with a helicopter trip to the Tui Brewery for him and his mates. So they can get to the brewery and re-live the missed opportunity.
