Rhythm And Vines to Return for Epic 13th Episode

Rhythm And Vines to Return for Epic 13th Episode
NZ’s premiere international music festival launches 2015 with exciting new ticket prices, rejuvenated festival and camping offerings

New Zealand’s ultimate New Year’s Eve experience, Rhythm and Vines is reinventing itself ahead of this December’s 13th annual music festival.

With tickets on sale from 27 May, the award-winning Gisborne festival has never been more affordable, with camping prices significantly reduced and a three-day ticket and camping package now starting at $245.

With a cutting edge line-up of international and local music talent due to be announced soon, a new-look format sees the festival’s stage and camping areas reconfigured and relocated to make the most of the stunning vineyard setting. Starting earlier at 2pm each day, an improved food and drink offering also includes gourmet food trucks, craft beer and local wines.

Those staying onsite at R&V Onsite Camping can enjoy four nights camping for just $70 for a basic package and $110 for premium. With several new zones created, improved facilities include additional flushing toilets and shower blocks for premium campers, while a new layout gives campers access to an onsite lake, waterslides, beer garden and other festival activities.

Having spent the past year in the United States and Europe studying other leading festivals, festival founder Hamish Pinkham believes the changes will improve the overall festival experience, bringing it in line with the best festivals in the world.

“Rhythm and Vines can hold its own internationally as a world class music festival experience with a uniquely Kiwi edge. We’ll always stay true to our roots, but at the same time we’re always working to make each festival better than the last one.”

Pinkham says unwanted behaviour at last year’s independently run BW Summer Festival has forced a change in liquor licensing with the removal of the campground’s BYO license.

A new camping-only offering at the Waikanae beachfront site will instead provide a safe and friendly environment for a significantly reduced capacity of 3,500. Without the music component of previous years, prices for four nights camping start at just $70 per person - about a third of last year’s $210 ticket price.

Campers can still enjoy reasonably priced drinks from a licenced beach bar adjacent to the campgrounds says Pinkham, with access to the popular surf beach right at their doorstep. “But it’s about balancing access with safety and we hope people will understand that.”

Limited BYO will still be allowed at R&V Onsite Camping with campers allowed to take in moderate amounts of beer or wine. To help compensate for the smaller numbers at Waikanae Beach, R&V Onsite Camping will be used to its 6,000 capacity and a new R19 area added to the otherwise R20 site.

Early bird tickets to Rhythm and Vines 2015 go on sale Wednesday 27 May at 5pm to pre-registered customers, with pre-registrations opening on Friday 22 May. A line-up announcement is expected late July.
