NZRDA’s Gingerbread Horse Campaign

Still Time to ‘Bake a Difference’ for NZRDA’s Gingerbread Horse Campaign

There’s still time for people sign up as Gingerbread Horse Bakers in support of this years’ NZRDA Gingerbread Horse Campaign, with the closing date recently extended to 12th August 2015.

The campaign asks individuals, schools and businesses across the country to register as Bakers, then bake and decorate horse-shaped Gingerbread biscuits using the items provided in their baking packs. From the end of July Bakers will then sell their tasty gingerbread biscuits to friends, family, workmates and the general public before banking the final amount raised with NZRDA.

With New Zealand baking icon and recent recipient of the NZ Order of Merit, Jo Seagar, on board as official spokesperson, the campaign has already seen over 600 Bakers from around the country sign up and pledging to bake over 40,000 biscuits using Jo’s special recipe.

NZRDA Funding and marketing Manager, James Craw, says that there are plenty of incentives in place this year to encourage people to ‘bake a difference’ in support of their local RDA.

“This year we’ve introduced special rewards for Bakers who complete their baking and selling at a high level – everything from certificates to baking aprons.

We also have some incredible prizes up for grabs, including a $1,000 Breville prize package and a special Masterclass baking lesson with Jo Seagar for up to seven people.”

All funds raised from this initiative allow the 55 RDA Groups around New Zealand to continue making a positive difference to the lives of disabled children and adults in the community, with over 90,000 individual Riding Sessions held annually in support of 3,200 Riders, each with their goals and outcomes to achieve.

James says that anyone can become a Gingerbread Horse Baker in support of their local RDA Group.

“All you need are the basic skills and creativity to bake and decorate the biscuits, and the motivation to sell them to friends, family, workmates and the community”.

People can sign up as Individual, Business or School Bakers via the website www.gingerbreadhorse.co.nz, with each Baker sent a free baking pack containing everything they need to start baking their Gingerbread Horse biscuits.

Registrations close on 12th August and Bakers are asked to have completed their baking and selling by 31st August.
