Hindus have offered heartfelt condolences on the Nobel peace laureate Elie Wiesel’s death on July two in New York.

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada today, said that they were saddened by the passing of Wiesel, 87.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, stated that with Wiesel’s death, world had lost a humanitarian who fought against hatred and conflicts.

Strong and moral voice against repression, racism, intolerance and cruelty; Wiesel, a great thinker and eloquent speaker; brought the message of peace to the world and spoke continuously for the victims of oppression and violence, Rajan Zed noted.

An activist and a forceful personality who wrote over 60 books, Wiesel never gave up on his commitment to the service of humanity, Zed added.
