Auckland Diocesan School For Girls Appoints
New Principal

After a six month international search, the Board of Auckland’s Diocesan
School for Girls today announced the appointment of Mrs Ann Mildenhall as its new Executive Principal.

Highly regarded as a leader in the field of girls’ education, Mrs Mildenhall is currently the Principal of Queen Margaret College in Wellington, a position she has held for eight years.

In a teaching career spanning 33 years, she has taught all ages including English and History to senior level in both the private and state sector and at single sex and co-educational schools.

She was formerly deputy principal at Diocesan where she worked in a number of different senior teaching roles over a seven year period before moving to Wellington.

During her time at the helm of Queen Margaret College, Mrs Mildenhall is regarded as having made an outstanding contribution both to the school itself and its standing in the wider community.

Mrs Mildenhall described her Diocesan appointment, which she will take up in October, as a “great honour”.

She added: “It is tremendously exciting to be given the opportunity to lead a wonderful school like Diocesan as it enters its second century.

“I leave Queen Margaret with a sense of a job well done but with considerable sadness at leaving Wellington, a city I have come to love.”

Mrs Mildenhall is a member of the Executive of the NZ Independent School Heads Association and an executive member of the Alliance of Girls Schools Australasia.

A robust international search, conducted by Auckland-based recruitment specialist Pohlen Kean, included the UK, Australia and New Zealand and considered more than 80 potential candidates from some of the top independent schools in each country.

Mrs Mildenhall replaces Mrs Gail Thomson, who has been in this role for the past 10 years.

Founded in 1903, Diocesan School for Girls has a roll of more than 1,500 girls aged 5 – 17 and ranks very highly in the list of top academic schools in New Zealand.
