ANZ opens modern student branch at University of Canterbury
ANZ today opened a branch at the University of Canterbury, offering banking services in modern, vibrant premises designed to meet the needs of students and faculty.
The new branch is part of a national programme to improve access to banking services for customers and is the first of a dozen new branches ANZ will open in New Zealand during the next two years. ANZ last opened a bank branch in December 2001.
Unveiled today by MP for Ilam Gerry Brownlee, the new branch was designed in partnership with the University of Canterbury Students' Association (UCSA) to service the needs of the university's 13,000 staff and students.
ANZ Local CEO in Christchurch Mr Colin Mansbridge, who was present at the opening with ANZ Managing Director Mr Greg Camm, said this was the first time ANZ had opened a branch at a university.
"Students told us they wanted banking facilities with convenient opening hours to help them manage their financial needs when they are on campus," said Mr Mansbridge.
"We listened and in consultation with the UCSA, developed a banking concept that's a real shift away from traditional-style bank premises. The branch features bright colours, funky graphics and designer furniture - it's a really fun environment in which students can manage their banking," he said.
The new branch will offer flexible banking services including phone banking, account and credit card opening, insurance, lending and financial planning services. Cash withdrawals and deposits will be handled via an ATM and secure deposit facility, available 24 hours, seven days a week.
The University of Canterbury branch - managed by Mr Paul McCone - is located on the ground floor of the UCSA building, and is open from 10 am to 4.30 pm Monday to Friday.
