Wintec 's Chinese students community raise money for victims of Sichuan earthquake

Wintec 's Chinese students community raise money for victims of Sichuan earthquake

Wintec’s Chinese student community yesterday handed over more than $3000 it raised at Wintec for former students at the Chengdu University DuJiangYan campus.

More than 69,000 people died and 18,000 people are missing as a result of the Sichuan earthquake. The group say while the money raised is not huge, it does demonstrate that “we are living in the same world and wish to help each other”.

Chief Executive Mark Flowers said Chengdu University in Sichuan province has a strong relationship with Wintec. Fifteen teachers from Chengdu University will begin a train the trainers programme at Wintec next month. “International students are important to Wintec and the institute is extremely proud of these students for their tremendous initiative.”

Fourteen students died at the Chengdu University DuJiangYan campus. More than 2,500 students have left to continue their study in another city. The funds raised will has been sent to Chengdu University directly to support them in accessing more teaching resources for these students.

Yesterday the group handed their cheque along with a signed banner of goodwill, to Wintec chief executive Mark Flowers to forward to Chengdu University.
