Increasing awareness of food safety & nutrition in Schools

April 2011
How big is one serve?

‘New Guide to increase awareness of food safety and nutrition in School canteens’

This year’s edition of the School Canteen Guide to Food Safety and Nutrition is set for release this month by Pro Visual Publishing. Produced in conjunction with the New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA), the guide aims to increase food safety and nutrition information awareness among school canteen workers and volunteers, teachers, parents and children themselves.

The informative and valuable text in the School canteen Guide to food safety and nutrition 2011 is provided by the NZFSA and highlights the significance of nutrition for school canteens, including the all important food pyramid which outlines the five food groups; grains, vegetables, fruit, dairy and protein. The food pyramid helps growing kids to receive all the nutrients they need for a healthy body.

The Guide also answers the commonly asked question; how big is one serve? This is a difficult question many wouldn’t know the answer to. The Guide gives everyday examples of one serving from each of the above mentioned 5 food groups.

Additionally the Guide contains important information on food safety including hand and personal hygiene, sickness, cleanliness, preparation and a range of other vital information, the guide is a must read for all canteen volunteers, workers and parents concerned about their children’s health and nutrition.

“The School Canteen Guide to Food Safety and Nutrition 2011 is an easily accessible resource for all members of the industry. I would like to thank all of the sponsors for their support of the School Canteen Guide to Food Safety and Nutrition 2011, who have made it possible for the Guide to be distributed free of charge to the industry”, said John Hutchings, CEO, Pro- Visual Publishing.
