New Mā te Reo 2014 Funding Round to Open in July

Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori announces a new Mā te Reo funding round will open on 21 July 2014.

Mā te Reo is a community based funding programme established in 2001 to support projects, programmes and activites that contribute to local level Māori language regeneration.

From 2013, the fund was increased from $1.8 million in grants to $2.25 million. The funds are contestable and must meet certain criteria. Te Taura Whiri welcomes applications from people in the community who wish to run a project that will enhance the use of te reo Māori. Recipients of previous funding grants include iwi, hapū, whānau, marae, Māori organisations and individuals.

The 2014 will open on Monday 21 July 2014, and closes Friday 29 August 2014 at 5pm.

Applications to the fund can be made online at www.ma-tereo.co.nz from 21st July 2014. While we encourage applicants to apply on-line, applications can be submitted in hard-copy.

"I’m glad we are opening this round as Te Wiki o te Reo Māori begins, as Mā te Reo projects represent Māori language revitalisation at its best“ says Pita Paraone Acting Chief Executive of Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori.

"We’re always pleased with the breadth of project ideas that our providers submit“ says Paraone.
