Mobility scooter safety days

FREE TRAINING FOR MOBILITY SCOOTER OWNERS

The ever increasing number of mobility scooters using Hamilton footpaths has prompted Life Unlimited Stores and the city council to join forces and run four free mobility scooter awareness training days in the city.

The first starts at 10am tomorrow (Wednesday 2 November) at the Hilda Ross Retirement Village in Ruakura Rd.

Guest speakers include Leo Tooman, former police inspector, city councillor and once the face of police road safety in the Waikato, and Mihi Bennett-Smith, council’s road safety co-ordinator.

Life Unlimited Store’s mobility scooter expert Nolan Raos will lead the 2 ½ hour sessions.

Life Unlimited General Manager Enterprise, William Hughes, says the training workshops are ideal for everyone, whether they are already a mobility scooter user or they are thinking about becoming one.

“We see the positive change in so many people’s lives through the increased independence that a mobility scooter can provide and feel it is very important to give people a chance to see how easy they are to operate and how safe they can be,” says Hughes.

Life Unlimited is a charitable trust offering health and disability services, advice and equipment. It operates four stores in Hamilton, Tauranga, Rotorua and Gisborne selling a range of mobility scooters including the New Zealand exclusive Neo scooters.
