TVNZ COMMUNITY SUPPORT RECIPIENTS

The recipients of this year's TVNZ Community Support Foundation have been announced at a function in the Auckland Television Centre this evening.

Fifteen organisations working in areas of health, education, culture, youth and the environment have been chosen to receive the more than $2 million dollars of free advertising exposure TVNZ awards to charitable organisations each year.

TVNZ Chief Executive, Rick Ellis, says the company takes pride in being able to support organisations that do so much for the country and which can benefit from increased exposure and assistance in fundraising.

"Over the past 15 years, TVNZ has committed in excess of $22 million of airtime helping charitable community-based organisations promote themselves into the homes of New Zealanders through television." The following organisations received support in 1999 and have been selected for a further year:

· Victim Support
· Refugee & Migrant Services
· Youthline
· WellChild Health Coalition
· Barnardos

The following five organisations have been selected to receive support for the first time:

· Te Taura Whiri i te reo Maori (Maori Language Commission)
· Mental Health Foundation
· Family Planning
· Outward Bound
· Coastguard

A further five organisations will receive targeted airtime support during the period of their annual fundraising appeals.
· Cancer Society
· Women's Refuge
· Asthma
· Alzheimers
· RSPCA
