NZMA Concern at ACC Funding Situation

MEDIA RELEASE

NZMA Concern at ACC Funding Situation

The NZMA today expressed grave concern over the serious funding situation announced by ACC this afternoon.

NZMA Chair Dr Peter Foley said: “Since 1974 New Zealanders have depended on the no-fault ACC scheme to provide the support and care they need if they suffer an accident. It is a critical element of the New Zealand health system.”

“Along with the rest of New Zealand, we are stunned at the situation ACC finds itself in.”

“While we accept that measures must be taken to address ACC’s financial situation, claimants must continue to have access to appropriate and timely care.”

“ACC must engage with the health professions over measures to remedy this situation.”

“The NZMA is prepared to work with ACC and the Government to ensure that essential services to our patients are not compromised,” said Dr Foley.
