Police arrest woman in possession of Class A and B drugs at Wellington Airport
A 54 year-old woman is in Police custody after she was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and other drugs at Wellington Airport yesterday afternoon.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Warwick McKee from the Wellington Covert Operations Group says the woman was arrested around 2-30pm yesterday afternoon, after arriving on a flight from Auckland.
"When the woman was located, Police seized close to 400 grams of the Class 'A' controlled drug methamphetamine, which has a street value of $400,000."
Also located in her possession was 100 Ecstasy tablets [Class 'B' controlled drug] and 45 tabs of Lysergide [LSD - Class 'A' controlled drug]. These had a combined street value of around $10,000.
The woman faces a number of charges including possession of methamphetamine for supply, possession of LSD for supply and possession of ecstasy for supply. She will appear in the Wellington District later today.
Warwick McKee says this is a significant seizure of methamphetamine which will have a direct impact in the supply of this terrible drug in the Capital.
"It shows a clear message to the community that we are actively policing the manufacture and distribution of methamphetamine and we will continue to come down hard on those criminals that manufacture and distribute these drugs."
Warwick McKee says methamphetamine is a very dangerous drug and to remove such a large amount from our streets is very pleasing.
