New aged care provider for Queenstown

One of New Zealand’s largest aged care providers Bupa Care Services is expanding in the South Island market. The national care provider today announced that it had been selected by the Southern DHB to operate the Lake Wakatipu Home and Hospital service.

“We are constantly looking for opportunities to grow in the South Island,” advised CEO Dwayne Crombie, “and the opportunity presented itself in Queenstown. We are therefore delighted that we will be providing care to the Queenstown community.”

Located on Douglas Street, Queenstown the Lake Wakatipu Home and Hospital is a 36 bed care home and hospital will be operated by Bupa from 10 June. With extensive experience and knowledge in aged care, Bupa promise to provide residents with quality care that is person centred and tailored to an individual needs.

Bupa currently operates 45 care homes nationwide, offering a combination of rest home and hospital level care serving over 3000 residents. They also operate 16 retirement villages nationwide comprising of 800 units and apartments. In addition to care and lifestyle living, Bupa provide personal medical alarms to over 11,500 New Zealanders living in the community. We have a number of existing clients with personal medical alarms throughout the Wakatipu basin.

The Wakatipu Home and Hospital adds to Bupa’s current South Island expansion programme involving a development in Invercargill which will see the building of 60 retirement village units and 60 care home beds. This project will commence in late May 2012.
