TV1 And TV3 Polls Show Divergent Trends

TV1 and TV3 poll results, both broadcast tonight, show different trends. TV1’s poll shows what could be an end to the rise and rise in the Labour Party’s fortunes since polling day, while TV3’s poll shows the rise continuing ever upward.

Tonight's TV1 Colmar Brunton Poll recorded:

Party Vote:

Labour down 2 to 50%
National up 2 to 32%
Alliance up 1 to 5%
Green up 1 to 5%
ACT down 1 to 4%
NZ First down 1 to 1%

Preferred PM:

Helen Clark down 2 to 46%
Jenny Shipley steady on 15%
Jim Anderton 4%
Richard Prebble 2%
Winston Peters 1%

65% of voters approved of the Government and 53% saw a positive economic outlook.

Meanwhile TV3’s CM Research Poll recorded:

In the preferred PM stakes:

Helen Clark 42% up 6
Jenny Shipley 13%
Jim Anderton 4%
Richard Prebble 2%
Winston Peters 2%

In the Party Vote:

Labour 53% up 2
National 28% down 2
Alliance 3% down 2
ACT 3%
Green 5%
NZ First 2%

In the TV3 poll Helen Clark also had remarkably good results in questions on the character of her leadership ability.
