At 9.15pm last night a 5.5 richter magnitude quake centered 60km South of Patea was felt in Wellington.

The quake had a focal depth of 145 km and was felt for just a couple of seconds in Karori. The quake follows unusual activity at White Island and a series of quakes in the Wairarapa and Marlborough Sounds.
