Politicians Indulge In Pre-Tax Debate Verbal Bash Up

- Tax relief is shaping up to be the big issue in this year's election. The Government is offering between 67c and $10 a week - but you'll have to wait three years. They say it's all New Zealand can afford and that any further cuts would mean less money for health and education. The opposition says that we can afford tax cuts – as early as next year. Bush Delivers State Of War Speech At Fort Bragg, North Carolina

    - Our mission in Iraq is clear. We're hunting down the terrorists. We're helping Iraqis build a free nation that is an ally in the war on terror. We're advancing freedom in the broader Middle East. We are removing a source of violence and instability, and laying the foundation of peace for our children and our grandchildren. The work in Iraq is difficult and it is dangerous. Like most Americans, I see the images of violence and bloodshed. Every picture is horrifying, and the suffering is real. Amid all this violence, I know Americans ask the question: Is the sacrifice worth it? It is worth it, and it is vital to the future security of our country. And tonight I will explain the reasons why. See... Bush Discusses Iraq, War on Terror At Fort Bragg [1]

Russell Brown Publishes The Great NZ Argument

    - This is a very big day for me. My first book, Great New Zealand Argument: Ideas about ourselves is officially on the shelves. Some of the material will be familiar to Public Address readers, from the web feature that started it all. The online versions of the works by David Lange, Keith Sinclair, Bill Pearson, Robin Hyde, Bob Gormack and Jim Traue have been tidied up and checked against originals for print, and new introductions have been written. Suzan Mazur On The Mason’s Mason - Frank Carlucci I

    - The life of Frank Carlucci I has largely escaped public scrutiny, possibly because he's grandfather to one of the knights of the political chessboard -- Carlyle Group’s Frank Carlucci III -- who is not known for being flashy. His talent for secrecy in the Masonic brotherhood, for example, for which he was rewarded with the highest honor: “sublime prince of the royal secret” was no doubt coded somewhere in the Y chromosome passed along to Frank Carlucci III, who has so far served as deputy director of the CIA, secretary of defense and national security adviser, among other trusted appointments. - The audacity inside the Bush administration never ceases to amaze. The latest example of chutzpah from Bush and co. is the announcement that Joseph Kelliher, a former policy adviser with the Department of Energy who currently serves as a commissioner on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the agency that controls the country's natural gas industry, hydroelectric projects, electric utilities, and oil pipelines and has played a critical role in the deregulation of those industries, will be named by the White House Thursday to chair FERC. Green Party Slams Goff Over Zimbabwe Cricket Tour

    - The Green Party has accused Foreign Affairs Minister Phil Goff of completely mishandling the Zimbabwe cricket crisis. "I'm not surprised Martin Snedden has refused to return Phil Goff's phone calls," said Green Party Co-Leader, Rod Donald. Foresters Lock Gates To Keep Govt Officials Out

    - The NZ Forest Owners Association is suggesting to its members that they refuse entry to government officials intending to set up carbon monitoring plots in private forests. President Peter Berg has confirmed that the association has suggested to its members that they not allow such entry to their forests until far more substantial consultation has taken place. He says the decision has been taken in response to members’ concerns, that it has not been taken lightly, and that it is not a preferred course of action. See...
