Tanveer Jafri: “Islami Crusade” of the Talibans

The Indians had to face again, great & sorrowful news last days when media telecasted news that an Indian Engineer, Surya Narayan was killed by the Talibani militants. Surya Narayan who was resident of Secunderabad in Andhra State in India was employed with the Bahrain based company. This company is connected with telecom work going in Afghanistan. Surya Narayan was abducted on last April 28 (Friday), at Zabool Province in Afghanistan, by the Talibanis. After this incident of abduction the talibani spokesman threatened that the Indian commercial embassy should be closed in Afghanistan & its time limit was 6 pm that it within 24 hours. Talibani kidnappers had also threatened that “all Indian companies working in Afghanistan & Indian citizens living in Afghanistan should leave Afghanistan. Government of India should make an announcement regarding this otherwise Indian engineer Surya Narayan will be killed after April 30, Sunday evening.”

To stop Surya Narayan from being executed, a high level body from India had just reached Afghanistan to find its possibilities, but the news of Surya Narayan’s execution by Talibanis was received before the deadline time given by the Talibanis. Regarding the abduction of Surya Narayan, the Indian party for negotiations to help the Indian Embassy in Afghanistan was being led by joint secretary of Indian Foreign Ministry K.B.S. Katoch. The members who joined this party were fully conversant with the ways to tackle such situations. The news of death of the Indian Engineer was at first given to media through satellite phone by the Talibani spokesman Qari Yusuf. Talibani spokesman Qari Yusuf didn’t tell the media that from where he was speaking to, but before the fixed deadline time, confirming the death of Surya Narayan, he told that “Indian Engineer Surya Narayan had over powered a guard while trying to free from the captivity. According to the spokesman, the other guards reached the spot where Surya Narayan tried to free. Seeing him run away, the other guards fired at him & killed Surya Narayan. After his death, his dead body was thrown on a road, nearly.”

The Taliban affected Zabool Province of Afghanistan, where Surya Narayan was killed is a region of Afghanistan under the influence of Qabaeli leaders. To get Surya Narayan released the efforts were being made to get him released through these Qabayali leaders. Before this, the influence of Qabayali leaders has proved fruitful on such occasions. But it is a matter of sorrow that this promising Indian Engineer was shot dead before fixed deadline of time, by the Talibani kidnappers. It was not the first incident of such kind to shot at Indians in Afghanistan by the Talibans. Before this, on last November 18, a young truck driver Maniyappan Raman Kutti, 36 was kidnapped by Talibani Militants in Afghanistan& after four days of kidnapping on November 22, 2005, the cruel Talibanis beheaded him with a sharp edged weapon. At that time these Talibanis put a piece of paper bearing a message, along with the corpse of Kutti that warned that these actions of Talibanis will continue even in future. Kutti was employed with an esteemed Indian company, Border Road Organization (B&R) & was at work with 290 officers & employees on three hundred kilometers long Zaranj Delaram Road Project. Before that two Indians were kidnapped in December 2003 but they released later on.

The same questions have revived after the death of Engineer Surya Narayan that is how far safe are the Indians working in Afghanistan? If they are safe & secure, then in spite of this security, how are the Talibanis able to abduct them? Are these happenings not giving a message of increasing influence of the Talibanis in Afghanistan? How long will this work of abduction & killing go on in Afghanistan? Most important of all is that these Talibanis who tell themselves the self styled custodians of Islam religion. What type of impression they want to leave of Islam by committing these kidnapping & brutal killings? Not only for Indians, these incidents are sorrowful & painful but for all the peace loving & humanitarians of the world also. At the same time these Talibani militants are giving a direct message to America that it will be a blunder for the American administration to have low opinion about the existence of the Talibans.

At present, the Taliban isn’t raising his head in many provinces of Afghanistan only but has got a strong hold in many border parts of Pakistan that are near to Afghanistan. The Qabayali region of Waziristan is dominant among these regions which can be said under complete control of the Talibans. Last month, in this Qabayali region of Pakistan, Talibani head Haji Umar had openly announced that there can’t be peace in Afghanistan till the American army is present there. Haji Umar had also announced that we shall not stop our crusade against America.

The above circumstances obviously reveal that the Talibans have no interest in any person or any company that is working there keeping in view of the progress of the citizens of Afghanistan. Their main aim is to show their presence to American army & to weaken Karzai government & to make efforts to win control over the rule of Afghanistan. To abduct, to kill or to follow such cheap measures just to fulfill their above wicked desires is an infamous effort to present Islam in the form of terror or fear.

However, after the event of terrorism on September 11, 2001 in America, an upheaval in the world politics is continuing & as a result of it, the Talibanis had to leave the reign of Afghanistan. The Talibanis had held the reins of Afghanistan since the beginning of decade of 1990. But one point to be taken care of for the American administration is that America should take interest in the safety & security of all other natives as is being done for the Americans. This will not suffice, along with it the Talibani hideouts must be kept at aim. This fear thought must be uprooted so that all the people not only of Afghanistan & Pakistan but Islami world & those who love world peace & humanity are also relieved from the cruel Talibanis who are affronters of the Islam & even the enemies of the Islam & are illiterate & cruel.
