------------Politics: PM Launches Assault On National's SOE Comments - Audio + Images + Video Link - Opposition Finance spokesman Bill English's comments on TVNZ's Agenda program last weekend were pounced upon by the Prime Minister at this afternoon's post cabinet press conference. "Why would we want to go from very successful sate owned company's returning a dividend to every Kiwi to some Kiwi's having the chance top get a lot more from them than others," said the PM when asked about Mr English's comments. Wise: Is Microcredit An Answer For Latin
America? - When Muhammad Yunus won the 2006 Nobel
Peace Prize for his pioneering work in aiding the poor in

Out! Burma Authorities Should Use Restraint -
The UN today called on the authorities in Myanmar to
exercise restraint in dealing with the recent wave of
peaceful protests, saying he hopes they will spur dialogue
between the Government and other groups on promoting
national reconciliation, the restoration of democracy and
full respect for human rights. Mr. Ban is closely following
events in the Asian country, where demonstrations began last
month in protest at a surge in fuel prices and the
protesters have more recently included many of the country's

Uri Avnery: Foam on the water - TODAY IS Yom
Kippur, and almost automatically my thoughts, like those of
everybody else who was around at the time, go back 34 years,
to that Yom Kippur. I was sitting at home, deep in
conversation with a friend, when the sirens suddenly started
to wail. The sound of sirens is always frightening, but
sirens on Yom Kippur are something from another world. After
all, this is a day of total silence, the day when not a
single car moves on the streets of Israel... More
