UPDATE #11 - 5.40pm: Urewera 17 Court Hearings Completed:
- Court appearances of the Urewera 17 have now finished in the District Court in Auckland. 16 of the 17 accused arrested as a result of police terror raids on October 15th have appeared over the past 2 days. (The 17th person arrested on Oct. 15 in Ruatoki faces drug charges unrelated to the "Terror" raids and it seems was just caught by accident in the "Terror" net.) Tears Shed As "Terror" Accused Returns To Cell

- All are scheduled to
reappear on December 3rd in the district court. None have
yet pleaded to the charges against them and disclosure of
the police case against them seems to be ongoing.

- 12 accused have been
notified that the police is seeking Terrorism Suppresion Act
charges against them
- 4 accused do not face potential
terror charges have all been granted bail. these are:
Moana Hemi Winitana, Ira Bailey, Marama Mayrick and
a person with name suppression from Ruatoki.
- Bail
applications have been made by most defendants and seven
have been bailed. As of tonight 10 remain in jail - all in
Auckland.
- Bail appeals are scheduled for three of those
who remain in jail for Demcember 9th in the Auckland High
Court. These are Valerie Morse, Emily Bailey and a
23-year-old Swiss National with name suppression.

An electronic bail hearing will be held on November 12th for
Jamie Lockett.
- Tame Iti's nephew Rawiri Iti has been
declined a second bail application.
- Two of the accused
- both from Manurewa aged 59 and 38 - have reapplied for
name suppression after having it turned down on appeal in
the High Court. They have been given seven days to make a
new application for name suppression. Neither of these
accused has yet made a bail application
- Two of those
who have been granted bail - Rongomai Bailey and a
32-year-old dancer from Auckland - have had their files sent
to the Solicitor General to decide whether they should be
charged with Terror offences.
- Three of the accused come
from one Wellington activist family, Emily, Rongomai and Ira
Bailey. Two have had their files sent to the Solicitor
General for possible terror charges. Two have been bailed
(Emily remains in jail), and all have been told they are not
allowed to talk to each other. This prompted Rongomai Bailey
to remark that it will make for a peculiar
Christmas.
Update #10 - 5.15pm: Rawiri Iti Not Allowed To Make 2nd Bail Application
- Proceedings in the Auckland District Court were adjourned this afternoon after Judge Patrick Treston ruled circumstances had not changed sufficiently to warrant allowing another bail application from Tame Iti's nephew Rawiri Iti.Update # 9 - 3.51pm - Omar Hamed Refused Bail
- "Terror" accused Omar Hamed, a 19-year-old student and Indymedia editor - has been refused bail by Judge Patrick Treston in the Auckland District Court this afternoon. The reasons for his decision and submissions made during the course of proceedings have been suppressed. Emily Bailey and Valerie Morse have told the court that they do not intend to apply for bail today. Earlier today Judge Treston continued suppression of Rongomai Bailey's image on application from his lawyer. A bail hearing has now begun for Rawiri Iti, the nephew of Tame Iti. - Radio New Zealand has reported that Rongomai Bailey and Emily Bailey were cheered in the Auckland district court this morning. A reporter at the court said bail applications are to be made for Emily Bailey and Rawiri Iti this afternoon and that a bail application for a terror accused whose name is suppressed is presently underway.UPDATE #7 - 12pm: "Terror" Accused Bail Hearing Underway In Auckland
- (Reported by Joseph Barratt From the District Court In Auckland.) The bail hearing for a "terror" accused activist facing several charges under the Arms Act is underway at Auckland District Court. Both the name and all the submissions to the court are suppressed at present. The judge will make final suppression orders and decisions at conclusion of the bail application. Prior to the morning break only the crown had made its submissions opposing the granting of bail to Judge Patrick Treston. UPDATE #6 - 10pm: Three Siblings Among The 17 "Terror" Accused
- (By Joseph Barratt And Spike Mountjoy) - "Morena" resounded from a packed public gallery at the Auckland District Court this morning when Tuhoe activist Tame Iti greeted supporters from the dock. Friends and families showed their support for many of the accused by standing as each of them entered the courtroom, and breaking into applause after favourable outcomes were delivered. And as name suppressions were lifted today it was revealed that three of the accused are siblings - identical twin brothers Ira and Rongomai Bailey, and their sister Emily. UPDATE #4 - 5.45pm: Two Women "Wellington" Terror Accused Named
- (Reported by Spike Mountjoy from the High Court In Auckland) - Wellington activists Valerie Morse, 36, and Emily Bailey, 30, can now be named as the two women arrested in Wellington on October 15th as part of the Police's "Operation 8" so-called anti-terror raids. The two women were remanded in custody tonight to appear tomorrow for possible bail applications. Images and physical descriptions of both women remain suppressed. - Two more "Terror" accused have appeared in Auckland District court. Both have name suppression on an interim basis pending a decision on whether they will be allowed leave to appeal to the Court of Appeal. - (Reported by Joseph Barratt from Auckland District Court) - Claps and cheers were heard in the Auckland District Court this morning when Wellington activist, bicycle mechanic and web developer Ira Bailey was granted bail and it was revealed that the police are not pursuing terror charges against him. Ira Bailey, 28 - identical twin brother of Rongomai Bailey who was bailed two weeks ago in Auckland - is the first of the four Wellington "terror" accused to have his name suppression lifted. A date has been set for his next appearance and he has been remanded in custody. [Rotorua High Court is scheduled to hear a bail hearing appeal on November 7th.] Jamie Lockett has also appeared. He too was remanded in custody. Much of the discussion in the morning has been about whether the media can record proceedings. A decision is yet to be made on this question.
