I fully support it. Broadband from most providers is too slow for online gaming, downloading & uploading. Come on ozzy's broadband is fast why can't ours be the same.

10 years too late, time someone got off their thumbs, I been in UK for the last 10 years and enjoyed cabled internet/tv services to door (10mbits), since I returned I can't believe the restrictions on speeds and data caps!!!

My consultancy business needs both to download large amounts of data (ideally 100s of GB) and to have reliable high speed connectivity with our customer sites. The business is small, lean and mean and so operates out of residential premises. Data downloads are primarily transfers within New Zealand and comprise databases that are core for business. High speed connectivity is essential for secure graphical management of remote computers and also so that database downloads can be completed before they change. It is so frustrating to suffer NZ's internet being managed by individuals who have no appreciation for the growth and scope of the internet and are stuck in an email mindset. Think instead of what the human imagination can achieve if the capability is present. Video conferencing of a quality that enables remote interactive teaching or medical assistance is just one possibility. Online movie stores and remote security monitoring also spring to mind. Cities overseas already offer 100Mbps connectivity. Anything less than a goal to get 1 Gbps to the door within a few years will condemn New Zealand to being uncompetitive. Only fibre can achieve this at present.

What we have is pathetic we need to be able to get information quickly without having to wait for what seems an age for it to down load

It's hard enough developing games for an international market when we are all the way down here in NZ, and sub-par internet connections only serve to further disadvantage us competitively. Fibre to the door would put us on equal footing with the international competition, allowing us to transfer data with the speed and reliability we need.

The reasons are this is the 21st century and at the moment we are still at 1992 when the rest of the world have been in the 21st century for how many years and are paying less than we are for a better/faster services meaning if we change businesses will able to run more stream line and more efficient. Also there are less issues with fibre compared to copper wiring come on New Zealand lets move forward.

Businesses would probably be the ones that would benefit more however who enjoys spending time on the net would love the time that is saved.

About The Vector Fibre Debate

The Government plans to give New Zealand a complete fibre to the door ultra-fast broadband network. Vector thinks that’s a great idea and is hoping to help them do it and Scoop.co.nz also thinks its something well worth discussing.
