Kiwis Have Their Say On Ultra Fast Broadband - 13

Why New Zealanders want an ultra-fast broadband network.

Every week, we will bring you a selection of comments from Vector’s fibre to the door website.

Here’s what Kiwi’s have had to say this week in support of Vector’s effort to bring fibre to the door of Aucklanders …..

I live only 70kms away from Auckland CBD in a rural community and have an Auckland address. We have to rely on slow dial up internet access, and despite numerous conversations with Telecom they have no plans to change us over to broadband in the foreseeable future, despite archaic cabling that sees our phone line with faults and non-functions at least once a month which means a day of no phone or internet waiting for the engineer and getting no compensation. I also feel cheated that we cannot view some of the more sophisticated sites because the slow dial up, so I welcome Vector fibre to the door with open arms!

Because I want to keep up with technology available world wide and make use of it to satisfy my customers needs - fast communication.

Fibre is a necessary part of your e-diet.

Because the connection speed is dreadful now, not worth using the internet sometimes!

I watch a lot of streaming video's and play online games too, a fibre connection to do these with would be a great advantage both in speeds and latency.

Technology upgrading is important for future growth of this country. Faster broadband speeds will aide in education, health and also families. I would love a faster, better internet service
RV

I am sick of slow internet, where if I complain to service providers, they treat me as if... "Have you checked the cord is plugged in" and the speed tests tell me I can download a 600 MB update for my computer in 10 mins and it takes 10 hours. That’s it pretty much.

Well First of all New Zealand is advancing in the IT industry but in internet speed is not, so what I’m trying to say is that we have to be up to date with the world IT and broadband speed . The New Zealand IT has a good future but we need the internet speed for the future. Fibre Optic is the popular in other countries. Basically what I’m trying to say is that New Zealand needs the Fibre now.

At my house, simple day to day internet tasks take ages to complete and having a good internet connection like fibre will ensure I can access and download from the internet much, much faster. Watching a 3 minute YouTube Video takes around 5-10 minutes of loading on broadband for my house and in the US, it is almost immediate so I'd like to have much faster internet ASAP!

Finally a break from the copper.
LD

I want internet pages to load instantly.
AS

It has been promised and my family wants to explore the possibilities
PS

It is important to be able to keep up with technologies and fibre to the door will assist the user to do that.

We're behind the 8 ball in terms of quality of product and services in New Zealand and the longer we wait the further other developing countries have in exploiting and gaining a major foot hold in eCommerce... etc. Let’s bring down the playing field so NZ businesses are on a equal footing with the rest of the world and give residential customers the benefits of superior that they have to live with at the moment!
TP

I want to see a full, open and transparent tendering process for FTTH to be rolled as soon as possible before the ridiculous Roads of National Significance (RoNS), using RoNS funding to speed up the process.
JH

In this day and age where things keep getting faster, we need fibre to the door just to keep in reach of the rest of the world. Standing still these days is akin to going backwards; we need to start taking leaps forward, not the crawling of old.
Jayson

Because I desire faster internet for personal and business purposes.
GB

Faster internet up to world-wide standards is always a good thing.
JB
Administration

I run a small business from home and fast internet is essential to grow my business. I also have school aged children and they require fast internet more and more with regard to home work etc.
LK

New Zealand is falling behind on internet services. Dial-up internet is so out of date and all my friends from Taiwan and Japan are surprised that New Zealand still provides Dial-up. I would like to believe fibre to the door will help New Zealand to reach world standard at broadband connection.
Lily

Mainstream media - especially newspapers - are under huge commercial pressure to cut back, as evidenced by today's announcement regarding TVNZ. Fibre to the door is essential to ensure that citizen journalists have a chance of helping stop gap not just the quality but quantum of journalism that has been lost over the last quarter century under Labour and National governments. Journalism is essential to ensuring that New Zealand does not disappear under a swamp of fraud and corruption. But good governance is not just about avoiding corruption - it's about ensuring that 'players' have the fastest possible route to the so-called 'level playing field.'
JB

Previously I have held positions in Tokyo and Las Vegas, where standard internet speeds make New Zealand look like a poor, hill-dwelling, 6-fingered cousin. We want this. We NEED this!
