Getting Ready For Budget Day

After a one week adjournment next week, the Government would deliver Budget 2012 on May 24, Leader of the House Gerry Brownlee said today.

Brownlee said in the Business Statement to the House that when Parliament sat again on May 22 the Government would seek to progress biosecurity and Crown entity reform legislation.

His shadow Trevor Mallard asked whether the Government would be seeking to pass any legislation through all stages after the Budget was delivered, he said an Associate Minister had suggested there would be such legislation relating to tobacco products.

Brownlee replied that if any extended hours were required MPs would be notified on May 22.


The Petition of Jennifer Maree Hooper was presented asking that the House of Representatives make any and all necessary changes to New Zealand's maternity system to increase safety and protection for all mothers and babies.
