Rates Validation Bill To Eat Into Members’ Bills

Today is Members’ Day in Parliament but much of the day’s proceedings could be taken up with a local council’s rates validation bills.

After Question Time and the General Debate MPs are scheduled to debate the Kaipara District Council (Validation of Rates and Other Matters) Bill. The Tasman District Council (Validation and Recovery of Certain Rates) Bill has been reported back but is not due to be debated today.

Debate on these bills could be up to two hours long with the issues covered by the bills highly contentious in the areas in question.

Member’s bill will then follow, with the Order Paper indicating the Privacy (Giving Privacy Commissioner Necessary Tools) Amendment Bill will be the first off the block. This only has 15 minutes left in its first reading debate before it is likely to be voted down.

This will be followed by the first reading debates (up to just over an hour long) of the:

Reserve Bank of New Zealand (Amending Primary Function of Bank) Amendment Bill (No 2)
