Paid Parental Leave Bill Limps On

After a long process the proposed extension of paid parental leave has completed its committee stage but is set to be voted down at its third reading next year.

The Parental Leave and Employment Protection (Six Months’ Paid Leave) Amendment Bill had some of it clauses voted down in committee stage by National and ACT. Debate on the bill continued today due to amendments put forward by Ms Moroney which would have created a more narrow expansion of paid parental leave aimed at those most in need. These were also voted down.

Debate on the second reading of the Sentencing (Protection of Children from Criminal Offending) Amendment Bill was interrupted when MPs broke for the dinner adjournment.
