Keep Apartheid Out Of National Parks
New Zealand First wants the Conservation Minister, Sandra Lee, to publicly explain her plans for Urewera National Park.
The Leader, Rt Hon Winston Peters, said the Minister should give the people of New Zealand an assurance that she is not planning to create some kind of ‘homelands’ by setting up exclusive Maori camping grounds.
“We should also be told whether she is spending taxpayers’ money on a private road and who will benefit from that road.
“National Parks have been created for the benefit of the entire nation and should be enjoyed by all, irrespective of their ethnic background.
“South Africa was the pariah of the world when it established ‘homelands’ based on race and Ms Lee should be aware that we don’t want any separatist regimes here,” said Mr Peters.
