New Zealand - The Last Asian Colony
New Zealand First has accused the Government of turning New Zealand into the last Asian colony and says the latest Statistics Department population projections prove this.
Statistics New Zealand expects the Asian population in this country to reach 604,000 by 2021 – more than double the estimate of 272,000 as at 30 June 2001.
Rt Hon Winston Peters said today that the artificial population change being inflicted on New Zealand would create considerable social and cultural disruption as had happened overseas.
“The changes to the population being wrought by this government are a form of social madness.
“Apart from the strain created now on social services and infrastructure by unchecked immigration, the population figures show that there will be rapid increase in the number of Asian people over the age of 65.
“This will bring increased pension costs and higher health costs. New Zealand cannot look after the health of its own people now and many elderly people are already struggling to make ends meet on the pension.
“Retirement incomes for many people now in the workforce will be reduced even further because they will have to share retirement funds with more immigrants.
“No rational government would
continue down a path that jeopardises the future of its own
people with stupid population policies,” said Mr
Peters.
