Minister happy to represent Manurewa for a sixth time

Manurewa MP George Hawkins said today he was happy to put all his eggs in his electorate basket and stand in the forthcoming election only as an electorate MP.

In the 2002 election Mr Hawkins received 15821 votes - a majority of 12548 over his nearest rival.

"I have been elected five times by the people of Manurewa and I'm happy to continue to do the job for the electorate for at least the next three years.

"The Manurewa electorate is a strong personal constituency and I have had great pleasure in accepting the request of the electorate to put my name forward again for election.

"The Labour List is a strong list and one which will take the party into another election victory later this year. I don't feel the need to be on the list because I can continue the effective job of representing my electorate in Wellington without being on the party list. My decision means other deserving candidates from the Labour Party can be placed higher up the list.

"The Labour Party has put together a winning team for the next election and I am very happy to be part of it," concluded Mr Hawkins.
