Key Does Bit for April Fool’s Day
Key Does Bit for April Fool’s Day
“All I can
deduce from John Key’s latest ramblings on tax is that he
has thrown himself into the April Fool’s Day spirit,”
Finance Minister Michael Cullen said today.
“The maths behind his claim that each taxpayer is now paying $260 more in tax than at the same period last year is crude in the extreme.
“He has basically taken the aggregate income tax
figure and divided it by the number of taxpayers. But this
completely ignores the fact that New Zealand has been
enjoying rapid job growth with the result that many more
people are now in work and paying tax than were a year ago,”
Dr Cullen
said.
