Brash responds positively to Zimbabwe cricket boycott
The Greens are applauding National Leader Don Brash for personally opposing the Black Caps' tour to Zimbabwe.
Last week, Green Co-Leader Rod Donald wrote to the leaders of the other parties in Parliament urging them to oppose the tour. This morning, he received a positive response from Dr Brash.
"I'm pleased that Don Brash has joined Helen Clark in opposing the Black Caps' proposed tour to Zimbabwe," Mr Donald said.
"I look forward to other party leaders responding promptly to my letter so that New Zealand can tell the world there is genuine multi-party opposition to playing cricket with Zimbabwe while the Mugabe regime is in power.
"Once that happens, Parliament should give very serious consideration to asking the Government to contribute to any fine imposed on New Zealand Cricket by the International Cricket Council if it follows our advice and cancels the tour.
"Otherwise, it's too easy for MPs to tell NZ Cricket to do the right thing, without acknowledging that principle comes at a price and that the country as a whole should bear a fair share of that cost."
