Alexander: 'Flatmates Wanted' not left wanting

Despite the Film Commission taking only one film to Cannes and spending $250,000, at least one other Kiwi film will be showing there, Flatmates Wanted, which was made for $1500, United Future arts and culture spokesman Marc Alexander said today.

"For Flatmates Wanted to be showing at Cannes proves that the Film Commission has got its priorities screwed up."

"Here we have a movie, made for $1500 - none of that Film Commission funds. It's been overlooked by the Film Commission, which is spending maybe $250,000 for industry luvvies to enjoy themselves. Yet it's still managed to be screened.

"You can't keep a good movie hidden and its directors, Mike Hohaia and Gary Davies, should be congratulated," Mr Alexander said.

"But shame on the Film Commission for its neglect. It's time someone shouted 'Cut!'" he said.
