ACT Education spokesman Deborah Coddington today called on the Labour Government to make public any golden handshake paid to outgoing NZQA chief executive Karen van Rooyen.
Miss Coddington was responding to the resignation of Ms van Rooyen today over the NZQA's poor handling of the NCEA Scholarship exams.
"State Services Minister Trevor Mallard has a duty to taxpayers to come clean and reveal whether or not a golden handshake has been paid out to Ms van Rooyen.
"Labour's past record would suggest that Ms van Rooyen has received a payout. Parents of children who sat Scholarship would be aghast if any such payment has been made.
"Taxpayers deserve to know how much, if anything, Labour has paid to make Ms van Rooyen fall on her sword and thereby save it from further embarrassment," Miss Coddington said.
