Labour must clarify road spending
National Party Transport spokesman Maurice Williamson is demanding answers from Labour over the way it plans to spend the $500 million roading windfall - announced shortly before the election.
“When Labour realised the superiority of National’s plan for roading, the Government miraculously found $500 million to spend on road funding between now and 2010.”
But the Contractors’ Federation says only $87 million of the $500 million will be allocated during the 2005/06 financial year.
“I absolutely share the contractors’ concerns about the slow rate of progress.
“The new Minister needs to explain whether the successful World Cup bid will force him to review his timelines,” says Mr Williamson.
