Suspend Palestinian aid/contact - McCully

National Party Foreign Affairs spokesman Murray McCully has called on the Government to suspend all financial support and government-to-government contact with the Palestinian Authority.

His comments follow the swearing in today of the new Hamas Cabinet.

"I am calling on the Prime Minister and her Minister of Foreign Affairs to join the leaders of other nations in putting Hamas, which many consider a terrorist organisation, on notice," says Mr McCully.

"New Zealand must discontinue all government-to-government contact with Palestine until Hamas renounces violence, recognises the state of Israel and demonstrates a willingness to cooperate with other countries in building the security of that region."
