Quick BBQ tax backtrack points to policy chaos
National Party Transport spokesman Maurice Williamson says Labour needs to come clean about its on-again off-again barbeque and heater tax.
"Land Transport has been scrambling to correct a letter that gave service stations the impression those refilling their LPG gas cylinders would be clobbered with road user tax.
"Bizarre as that sounds, the department is still refusing to rule out the possibility of new taxes for the LPG cylinders commonly used in barbeques and heaters.
"What's going on at Land Transport? They're sending out letters, retracting them, and then saying they're not finished with the review process.
"Labour needs to assure those who use LPG for cooking and heating that they're not about to be slapped with new extra taxes," says Mr Williamson.
