New report ordered - still waiting for old one
"Ruth Dyson's been forced into an embarrassing admission that she has not yet seen a report from a 2006 investigation into the CYFS-funded Wairaka Kökiri Trust," says National's Associate Welfare spokeswoman (CYFS), Anne Tolley.
The report was commissioned after the trust lost one of their young offenders in 2005 and failed to report him missing for three months.
Just last weekend two youths escaped from the Ruatoki-based trust and a new report has now been ordered.
"But today we found out that while the Minister has ordered a new report on the trust - she hasn't yet received the first one.
"This is absolutely astounding. Ms Dyson should have made it a priority in 2006 to find out whether the terms of the CYFS contract were being honoured. Her admission today that she hasn't received the earlier report defies belief."
On Tuesday, Mrs Tolley asked Ruth Dyson if she would publicly release the report from the incident in 2005. She gave an unequivocal 'yes'.
"Today I asked her when she would release it - her response was 'when I get it'.
"Surely, straight after the dramatic events of the weekend unfolded, Ms Dyson would have been demanding to see the earlier report on the trust to establish whether problems have previously been identified."
