One Bid Down, One To Go
New Zealand First is pleased that Dubai Aerospace Enterprise has dropped its bid to buy over 50% of Auckland International Airport shares.
“New Zealand First had grave concerns about Dubai Aerospace's bid, including the consortium’s overt proposal to give preferential treatment to the Dubai-based Emirates airline over our taxpayer-owned Air New Zealand," said New Zealand First MP Brian Donnelly.
"But our main concern lies in ensuring that such a vital and successful strategic asset doesn't wind up in the hands of foreign owners. We see no wisdom in consigning Auckland Airport to any overseas bidder for them to reap the benefits of the company's success.
"New Zealand First will be doing it all it can to ensure that the new bid by the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board to buy shares in Auckland Airport ends in the same way Dubai Aerospace's has. That's one bid down, now we've got one more to go," concluded Mr Donnelly.
