congratulates Clark on UN appointment
UnitedFuture
leader and Ohariu MP Peter Dunne today congratulated Helen
Clark on being appointed to head the United Nations
Development Programme.
“This is an historic appointment and illustrates the high regard both New Zealand and Helen in particular are held in within the international community,” Mr Dunne said.
“Helen has already proven to be an incredibly effective international negotiator, with a deep passion for the issues facing the Pacific region. I am sure she will prove to be a great ally to the region in her new role.
“She will rightly be remembered as one of New Zealand’s most diligent and admired Prime Ministers. Whatever side of the political fence one sits on, it is fair to say that Helen’s political astuteness, incredible work ethic and determination to promote New Zealand abroad will long be remembered,” Mr Dunne said.
“I am confident she will lead the UNDP with great distinction.
"The challenges she will face are huge in reducing HIV/AIDS, promoting democratic governance, and managing crisis prevention and recovery programs across 166 countries.
"I am sure that her commitment to the issues and desire to succeed will give the UNDP every chance of achieving those aims," Mr Dunne said.
