Progressives won’t stand in Mt Albert
The Progressive Party will not be standing a candidate in the Mt Albert by-election, leader Jim Anderton says.
The Progressive executive last night decided to endorse Labour in the by-election because Labour is talking about issues relevant to the Mt Albert community – and the other parties want to make it all about themselves.
“The Mt Albert by-election should be about local, not national, issues and service.
“We are working cooperatively with Labour in parliament and some Progressive members are likely to help Labour at the local level in this by-election as well. They want an MP who will represent Mt Albert’s unique communities. They want someone who will listen to local communities over the Super City, and they want an MP who supports a tunnel and more public transport in Mt Albert to complete the Waterview connection – not bulldozing a motorway through homes and streets – if it ever gets started under the present government.”
